Before joining Salamanca, Vela was part of Arsenal's youth system and went on to make 29 appearances for the club in the Premier League. He later spent seven years at Real Sociedad in LaLiga.
In a post on Instagram, Vela expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share his career with his fans, saying, "Throughout my career, I have experienced many special moments, but the time has come for me to officially retire from professional football. It has been an honour and a privilege to share my career with all of you."
Vela joined Los Angeles FC in 2018 and played a significant role in the club's success, helping them win both the MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup. He set a league record with 34 goals in the 2019 MLS season and remains the club's all-time leader in goals, assists, and appearances.
