Hurzeler felt that his team should have been awarded a penalty for a challenge made by Sandro Tonali on Matt O'Riley. He suggested that the referee's decision was inconsistent, as he had blown the whistle for a penalty for a different incident involving Tariq Lamptey and Kieran Gordon.
In a post-match interview, Hurzeler shared his thoughts on the decision.
"I don't understand why the referee gave a penalty for that situation," he said. "There was no contact, and I don't see a big difference between the foul committed by Tariq Lamptey on Kieran Gordon and the one committed by Sandro Tonali on Matt O'Riley."
"If the referee gave a penalty for the other incident, then I think VAR would have no reason to overturn it," he added. "We did our best, and I thanked the referee for his decision. It wasn't an easy game, but we have to accept it and move forward."
