After celebrating their Premier League title win at Anfield, Liverpool faced a challenging match against Chelsea, who are fighting for a spot in next season's Champions League. The champions were given a guard of honour, which Van Dijk thinks is a nice gesture.
"It's about respect, and I think it's well-deserved. There are still three more games to go," he said.
Van Dijk emphasized to his teammates the importance of maintaining their level of performance, even after securing the title. He pointed out that dropping their standards can have consequences, especially with Arsenal focusing on European competitions.
"We had good possession, but our pressing wasn't great when we didn't have the ball. They found spaces between our lines," Van Dijk explained.
"Conceding an early goal wasn't ideal, but if we play the way we want to, we can create chances. We had opportunities to score, but in the end, Chelsea deserved the win. That's what's disappointing, as we came to win."
Van Dijk acknowledged that the team's performance wasn't great, but he was pleased with their preparation and sharpness.
Liverpool will receive a guard of honour from Arsenal, Brighton, and Crystal Palace in the coming weeks as the season comes to a close. The team is also looking forward to a huge parade through the city, which Van Dijk says will be special after fans missed out on the previous celebration due to Covid-19 restrictions.
"The parade will be even more exciting than ever, and we'll have more people joining us from around the world. I encourage all our fans worldwide to come and celebrate our amazing Premier League season. But for now, we need to focus on our remaining games."
Van Dijk is looking forward to the final stretch of the season and the possibility of lifting the title. "It will be an emotional day, and my family will be there to celebrate with us. We need to stay focused and win our last three games to make it a reality."
